EVENTING ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

 Horse Trials Canada Athletic Development Scholarship Program is designed to recognize and encourage the pursuit by Young Event Riders to compete at the Two-Star Three-Day Event level or higher.

Scholarships will be for the sum of $1,000.00 each with a minimum of two scholarships awarded annually to qualified applicants, with additional scholarships awarded if sponsorship funds are available.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be Canadian citizens or hold Canadian landed immigrant status, be over the age of 16 years as of January 1st in the year of application, and be a member of Equine Canada and Horse Trials Canada.

 Applicants must have completed a minimum of one three-day event competition at the Preliminary Level.

 Applications will be assessed based upon Eventing experience, equestrian goals, financial need,  involvement within the Horse Trials organization, Eventing and other Equine activities, including  their support and promotion of the Equine Sport in Canada.

 Application Procedure

No Formal Application Form will be provided but Applicants should submit a letter of their own design, not exceeding three (3) pages in length, which shall include the following:

1.             Equine Canada Membership Number;
2.             Horse Trials Canada Membership Number;
3.             Proof of Canadian Citizenship or landed immigrant status;
4.             Competition Results and other pertinent information to establish fulfilment of the requiremets set forth in the eligibility criteria;
5.             Other awards and funding received by the Applicant in the immediately preceding twelve (12) month period.

Application Deadline

Applications must be received on or before October 15th ,2002 by  the Application Committee, which shall consist of three individuals chosen annually at the Horse Trials Canada Annual General Meeting for the ensuing year, one of whom shall be the Chair of the Athletic Development Committee. Successful Scholarship Recipients will be notified on or before December 1st.

Rider Profiles

COLLEEN LOACH 


Hometown:  North Hatley, Quebec

Horses:  Dare to Compare – 15 year old TB gelding
             
Glorious Colours – 10 year old TB gelding

Colleen is twenty years old and has been eventing for the past six years.  This will be her fourth time representing Quebec at NAYRC.  Colleen will be competing with two horses this year, Glorious Colours in the CCI* and Dare to Compare in the CCI**.    During the 2002 winter Colleen worked and trained at Willow Run Farm in Ocala, Florida with Jenn and Jon Holling.  This past winter she trained at home while completing her collegial studies.  This spring and summer Colleen competed at Checkmate, Napierville, Turtle Hill, and Dreamcrest.  Colleen’s previous accomplishments include being chosen Quebec Eventing Athlete of the Year in 1999 and she was a member of the 2001 Talent Squad.

Colleen’s immediate plans following Young Riders include starting a business degree at Bishop’s University in September.  She hopes to return to Willow Run South in the new year and continue working and training with the Hollings. Colleen plans to compete with Dare to Compare at the advanced level this fall.  Colleen’s ultimate goal is to represent Canada at the Olympics.
